For four months of the year, Sarasota drives like a much larger city. Through the winter season, St. Armands Circle depends heavily on the John Ringling Causeway, so one slowdown can affect the entire approach. None of that appears on a map. Which Airport Fits Your Flight and Sarasota Address

Two airports north of here take most of the work, and both sit roughly an hour away on a clear morning. We set out earlier for the same flight between January and April, because the roads north do not empty until then. St. Pete-Clearwater Airport (PIE) is roughly fifty-five minutes away. Tampa International Airport (TPA) is about an hour. The drive is nearly the same, and the flight list is not. Neither is what you can get into once you are through security.

PIE is the smaller of the two, with a shorter walk from the curb to your gate. Tampa takes care of long-haul departures and offers a wider choice of carriers, which is why it comes up more often. If you are choosing between a dawn departure and a mid-morning one, ask us. How the Tampa airport run changes through the day matters more here than the mileage.

Your address is the other half of it. Anywhere on the Keys means crossing back over the causeway first. A Bird Key start needs a longer run-up than an address off Main Street. That is already in the time we quote you for an airport transfer.

Big Top, Sun King, and Calusa in One Sitting: Our Sarasota Brewery Tours

The beer scene here runs from the I-75 side of town down to the south Trail, which is the whole problem:

• Big Top pours off Fruitville Commons Boulevard, with taps borrowing from the city’s circus history.
• Closer to downtown, Sun King’s Mango Avenue taproom serves small-batch beer brewed in Florida alongside selections from its wider beer list.
• Thirty-six lines and a kitchen make Calusa the one people linger at, out on McIntosh Road.
